There is gender bias in many fields. Notice the term "women artists", "women's fiction." Why not refer to "male painters" or "masculine writers?" Medical research and treatment assumes the male body is the norm. "Women's issues" are a niche area. Not so true in other cultures, as you probably know after so much travel. We are second class citizens....but historically we used to be the property of our fathers and husbands. "You've come a long way, baby" (cigarette commercial from the '70s)

it's certainly complicated RD! Given the current turn of events for the USA, I want to explore this topic even more as we may be on a slippery slope. Thanks for reading RD, you're one of my heroes errrrrr Sheroes <3

This is well expressed, Meagan. Good on you in saying how it feels.

Thank goodness for you, and those who have come before.

We were just talking about women and, historically, our ability to borrow money at dinner. We could not get a credit card on our own before the 70’s. A friend at dinner was saying that he worked for a bank back then and Oprah, before she was known by one name, borrowed money from his bank. The chiefs made him get her dad to come in and co-sign the note. It was less than $2,000.

There has been progress made in recognizing women’s abilities, but not enough. Yes, it’s evident in the world of art.

Slowly, slowly, by generation, the wheel of change turns.

Keep doing what you do - it’s fabulous. I loved taking your line drawing practice.

Hello Renee and thanks for reading! For all the things we collectively as women have accomplished, on some days it can seem dreadfully stalled, especially as we enter 2025. It's hard to know exactly what lies ahead, but I want to at least put it out there, while we still have "freedom of expression." Hope your'e doing well and please stay in touch. Thanks again for reading and commenting Renee :))

I consider your art as a unique representation of yourself. I don't see your continuous line drawings only as continuous line drawings per se, but as an expression of your stream of consciousness. That's why I love not only your drawings, but also your live streams. They both show yourself as you really are, with no filters or masks. I think you deserve a wider audience. But the world is not prepared for authentic people yet. We need to evolve as a socitey first to be able to appreciate people like you.

Thanks for a lovely comment, I appreciate ie Andrea! I also appreciate the niche community I have helped create and the awesome artists who engage and support the community. I agree as a society we have a ways to go, but I also feel this type of work is super important, so I will carry on. Thank you for reading, and thanks for your comment :)

So relate, gender bias - aka many other words I don’t have the care or fucks to spell out here - is EVERYWHERE. Look at a newspaper or media website. I’ve often wondered what aliens looking at Netflix movies or TV news channels must think given the only population represented on these and all platforms is men. Ok not every single image is of a male but 90%, once you see it you can’t unsee it. On the upside, maybe said aliens will come and take them all back to the mothership and we can start again, lol.
